Big D Dan Phillips graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1981. He participated in both football and basketball since third grade. His senior year (1980) held the Wabash Valley and All Tri-County defensive award. He is a 1995 graduate of Vincennes University as has since worked at his alma mater in the department/division technology/parts shop since fall of 1995. He originally went to college for radio/TV at VU with a desire to do sports broadcasting.
He has also been a professional musician for many years as has performed in 32 states for the past 45+ years.
Dan’s father, Dan, was a football coach who retired as athletic director at Linton. His mother was an elementary teacher her whole life. His sister, two nieces, and nephew were all Linton grads AND involved in sports during their years at Linton.
Dan started covering Miner Football as a favor to help a friend at the Original Company in Vincennes fall of 2000. This coming fall (2024) marks 24 years in color announcing, the last 14 being with Media Five Sports (the last two of which he worked alongside Kevin Rader). He also had one year (2001) with his Dad broadcasting as the color man (before he passed away spring 2002). During his 24 years, he has missed only one game. He loves that his Mom tunes in every game night.
The 2024 Linton Miner Football Season will mark Big D’s 25th Season of Miners Coverage
